Dear friends,
We are excited to share with you news of the redesigned Incluseum platform! After 13 years, we decided it was time to update the look, feel, and navigation of our homebase to better reflect our community, values, and activities. This redesign was made possible through a collaboration with 4 master’s students in Information Management from the University of Washington’s Information School (iSchool). A heartfelt thank you to Marion Yuga, Gizem Aslaner, Susan Acharya, and Amritpreet Singh! The team’s work was recognized with three well-deserved awards at this year’s iSchool Showcase–the Spark Award for Creativity, the Bridge Builder Award for Equity, and the Visionary Award for Insightfulness. Congrats team!
Since 2012, The Incluseum has been advancing new ways of being a museum through inclusive practices and imaginative methods that help envision inspiring futures for museums. We are the first and longest-running platform with this focus, and have carried out our work in three main ways: 1) A multi-vocal blog that amplifies and connects examples of inclusive practices in museums, 2) Our own practice developing exhibitions and workshops, and 3) Publications, presentations, and events.
Our decennial anniversary in 2022 marked a turning point for The Incluseum: we published our book Transforming Inclusion in Museums: The Power of Collaborative Inquiry and paused our blog publishing activities. Though we continue to welcome new contributions that uplift critical perspectives in cultural heritage, we are prioritizing stewarding and curating the content published to date. The new platform supports this through a redesigned archive that is organized according to the themes and relationships that weave across the posts. We hope that this will give readers an increased appreciation for the intricacies and realities of inclusive practices in museums.
Looking ahead, we want to invite continued collaboration with our international community; with you! We are particularly interested in opportunities to partner on consulting projects, design innovative courses, and explore podcasting and zine creation. We welcome ongoing dialogue, ideation, and dreaming with you – how would you like to see The Incluseum activated? How would you like to participate?
We acknowledge that this is a challenging time for museums and our communities around the world. We remain steadfast in our vision of inclusive transformation in museums and in our commitments to change-making and world-building in solidarity with you. We will make it through this moment together.
As always, we look forward to hearing from you and hope you enjoy the new platform!
